About Us

Our Mission

We exist solely to serve our members by offering products designed to meet their financial needs, enhance their financial well-being, and improve their lives in general.

In other words, we exist for you. You are the credit union. You are our purpose, and we are here to make your money work for you.

Credit unions are where people are worth MORE than money!

What is a Credit Union?

Credit unions are member-owned, not-for-profit financial cooperatives that are established to serve a particular group of individuals with a common bond, such as employment, associational affiliation, or geographic affiliation.

When you join a credit union, you become part owner of an elite organization in which members pool their funds for the financial benefit of the entire membership. Some save, and some borrow, but the participation of both is essential to the success of the organization. Once you join a federally chartered credit union, you are a member for life. “Once a member, always a member” is a credit union motto.

As a member-owner, you are entitled to one vote at the annual meeting of the membership, regardless of how much or how little money you have on deposit at the credit union. Each year, members have the opportunity to elect a board of directors. The board, which makes policy and determines the direction of the credit union, is comprised solely of credit union members who serve without pay. The board of directors is duty-bound to act in the best interest of the member-owners, not stockholders.

Credit unions are among the most heavily regulated financial institutions in the country. This is evidenced by the strength and stability of credit unions nationwide. State-chartered credit unions are regulated by individual state banking agencies, while federally chartered credit unions are regulated by the National Credit Union Administration (NCUA), a U.S. government agency.

But is your money safe? You bet it is. Your funds are backed by the full faith and credit of the U.S. government and are insured to at least $250,000 by the National Credit Union Share Insurance Fund administered by the NCUA. Our History

In June 1964, seven employees of the MS Highway Safety Patrol applied for a federal charter to establish a credit union to serve the employees of the MS Highway Safety Patrol and their immediate family members. Thus was born the MS Highway Safety Patrol Federal Credit Union (MHSPFCU). Today, we boast assets of over $10 million and are 1,400+ members strong.

Over the years, we have incorporated several other divisions of the MS Department of Public Safety into our field of membership and have introduced many financial products designed specifically to meet the needs of our members. The board of directors of MHSPFCU is committed to offering the best financial service possible to our membership.

Throughout our 50+ years of service, MHSPFCU has enjoyed a stellar performance history that continues to the present day. Thanks to our volunteers, members, and staff, we are a safe, sound financial institution with strong, positive trends that promise to continue for many years to come.

Your funds are safe with MHSPFCU and insured to at least $250,000 by the National Credit Union Administration, a U.S. government agency. To learn more about how your funds are insured and how to increase your coverage, click on NCUA’s Share Insurance Tool Kit.
